Lily was starving. She had skipped her meals all day because she couldn't put her book down. It was just too captivating that it could hardly be said that it was her fault she hadn't eaten. No, you could either blame the author or her brother, who bought the book in the first place. But all those excuses didn't solve Lily's hunger.
Luckily, having an older brother had taught Lily all the secret passages in the castle and most importantly, how to get into the Hogwarts kitchens. Getting out of bed, and making sure not to be loud, Lily slipped on her housecoat and slippers. She tiptoed out of the common room and made her way towards the kitchen. It was going to be a long walk since it was down near the great hall where as the Ravenclaw common room was near the owlery.
Lily, since it was dark and she couldn't see where she was going, happened to collide with one of the suits of armor. She cursed silently under her breath and felt around for her wand in her housecoat. But she couldn't find it...which meant it was back up in the common room. Oh well! She had to get going or risk getting caught by Filch!
Rushing down the remainder of the stairs to reach her destination, Lily heaved a sigh of relief when she heard no footsteps behind her. Looking ahead, the painting of the bowl of fruit was visible. Walking over to the painting, she tickled the pear and smiled when the opening appeared. Lily stepped through and nodded at the sight that beheld her. Now it was time to order.
"Cakes, pies, cookies and most importantly...pumpkin pasties, please!" Lily said with a little laugh. The elves were quick to obey and she watched as they got her foor ready and gave it to her with tiny bows. "Thanks." Lily took a seat at what would be her Ravenclaw table and started to munch on her food.

Yawning to herself, Chanelle dragged her feet down the Girls Dorm staircase, willing herself to go those extra few steps without collapsing to the floor and falling asleep. Why, you may ask, was this Gryffindor out of bed if she was so tired? That was quite a valid question and one she couldnt quite answer herself. Those who were friends with Chanelle had grown to learn that she was a slightly odd girl.
Blinking several times as she reached the Gryffindor Common Room, to adjust to the brightness emerging from the fire, Chanelle grabbed a blanket from her favourite armchair and wrapped it around herself. Her cloak was back up by her bed and if she tempted herself by returning there... she wouldnt make it to the kitchens by dawn.
Smiling at the thought of visiting the house elves, Chanelle made sure her wand was safely in tucked away in her PJ's and made a dash out of the common room, being as quiet as possible. If she was caught being out of bed this time of the night, there would be consequences to pay. Though she was used to detentions and such, Chanelle was adventurous during her years at Hogwarts and enjoyed nightime wanders around the castle and Forbidden Forest.
Humming softly under her breath, travelling down the many staircases, taking a few shortcuts along the way, Chanelle finally reached the Kitchens. Raising her hand from beneath the blanket, she gently ticked the pear on the fruit bowl painting and awaited patiently for the opening. Taking a large sniff of the air already wafting out, the smile on her face widened ten times large as she stepped into the opening. Before she could even take a look around the room, a bunch of house elves had already made their way up to the Gryffindor, awaiting her requests.
"Um... lets see. Think you could hook me up with a few cakes, caramel tarts and..." she trailed off in thought, searching around the kitchen. "Pumpkin pasties!" she exclaimed, setting her eyes upon Lily. "Thank you, dears." she smiled back down at the house elves, giving a particularly small one a hug. "Lily!" she beamed, bounding over toward the Ravenclaw, happily eating her food. "How are you? I havent seen you in... oh, forever!" she smiled, embracing her into a hug before taking a seat. "Mind if I join you?"

"Sounds like some very good choices," Lily said, in way of greeting. "But I especailly love the pumpkin pasties option. I think you've been spending too much time with me Elle. I'm starting to run off on you." Lily smiled, glad to see her friend again. She was never any good at keeping in touch because she was never very fond of her writing. But that all didn't matter. They could tell eachother everything now!
"I know...this summer felt like forever," she groaned. Truth was, Lily loved being at Hogwarts. It wasn't that she didn't love her family, because she did, but you could never have as much fun at home as you did here in the castle. Lily hugged Chanelle and shook her head. "Did you even have to ask? Of course you can join me! Sit!"
Lily grabbed a pumpkin pastie from her dish of what technically was alll her meals for the day. She just loved pumpkin pasties and she could honestly say they were the key to everything about her...well maybe. "How have you been Elle? Was your summer alright? Glad to be back at school?" She laughed after her last question. Lily had always been all for school but Elle...well Lily never really could tell if she enjoyed it or not sometimes.

"You and your pumpkin pasties." she laughed, shaking her head at Lily. "For as long as I can rememeber, you've always had a weird obsession with those things... and I have to agree that you're rubbing off on me. But they're so.... Mmmm!" she exclaimed, taking a bit into one of the pasties brought out by the house elves. "Oh my..." she trailed off, watching as they piled the table with quite a lot more than what she had asked for. "But you didnt have to-!" she got cut off as they quickly took off, leaving Chanelle with a lot of food.
"Well... care to help me eat all this?" she asked with a small smile, looking back up at Lily. "I know...this summer felt like forever,". Chanelle couldnt help but nod in agreement. The summer had indeed felt like it was never going to end. As much as she enjoyed spending time with her family, her step father was the one who ruined it all. Chanelle had never much liked him, nor did her brother Alex. But their mother wouldnt hear a word they had to say about him, it was a grin-and-bare-it situation.
"I've been alright. Trying to practive flying upright, my balance isnt all the best." she admitted, laughing a little. "Maybe your flying abilities will rub off on me just like your love for pumpkin pasties? I can only hope so. But its good to be back at Hogwarts again, I mean I love it at home and all... but... Hogwarts is my home away from home, I need it." she shrugged, making a grab for a caramel tart. "Now, enjoy about me... what about you!? How was your Summer? Get up to anything exciting?"

"I have! Ever since I was old enough to eat whole foods...pumpkin pasties have always been my favourite. I always planned to take a pumpkin pastie diet which you know all too well but it didn't exactly turn out," Lily laughed, looking down at her stomach. She had tried the diet in her third year and had become a little pudgy. Thank god for Quidditch and random walks. "It's good to be addicted...just don't try the diet. I have to work out sopme kinks in it first.
Lily snorted since the look on her friend's face was priceless. "Nope...I'm not helping. Eat up! You'll hurt their feelings if you leave anything. It'd be an insult to their cooking," she said in an overly dramatic voice. "The poor elves. Slaving away for you and you don't appreciate it! If you don't eat it all then you'll at least have to take it with you. I'll help you carry it but that's all the help you'll get out of me. I'm got my own plate to finish." Lily looked down at her plate and took a piece of black forest cake. She took a bite and closed her eye to savour it.
"Mmmm everything is so much better at Hogwarts. Not that I'm dissing my mother's cooking...but it's divine in this castle. I always eat best here," Lily smirked, finishing off her piece of cake. "I'm sure you'll get the hang of flying but this year it OWLs so I don't know if I'll have time to help you out as much." As Chanelle began to talk about Hogwarts as another home, Lily couldn't help but agree. "It's like a home away from it all...everything. A home where you're parents can't enforce the rules and a place were you can break them easily. How many times have we been out into the forest in four years?"
Lily nodded when she asked her about her own summer. It wasn't that spectacular or worth telling. But she might as well tell her friend something. "Well...Liam moved out and he's got his own place over near the Leaky Cauldron actually. A couple streets away. He's living in a muggle appartment building. Kimi stopped by to tell everyone she got a job as an interperator in an Africian country. It surprised me considerably since you know she was always the 'oh I've broken a nail type'. Though they are giving her quite a bit if money and she's going with this guy...he's French." Lily rolled her eyes. "But that's like Kimi. She's willing to get herself dirty if it means landing this hot guy."
She smiled before taking a pecan tart and chewed it, continuing. "Tori is thinking of opening a flower shop since she's come up with this weird formula. Keeps flowers alive longer and what not. But she's always been a fan of plants, Herbology being her best subject. A typical Hufflepuff she was," she laughed. "And the James. James, James, James. He's engaged already at 21. I've never even met his furture wife. I only know her first name, Laura. But I suppose all this doesn't really explain what happened to me does it?"
Lily took a sip of the punpkin juice infront of her and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. "The truth is, I've gained a step father. My mother got married during the summer. The guy is a total jerk and I hate him. Most of my summer was spent sitting in my room, painting or reading. It was quite boring actually. Liam did take me to a Chudley Canons game though. They won for once. But that's basically it. Not as interesting as your summer by far."
